Princess Project + Beauty Company

The Princess Project is a phenomenal bay area non-profit that collects dresses for girls who can’t afford to buy their own for prom. There are dress drives through the month of February, then Princess Project hosts an annual dress giveaway in which high schoolers can try on dresses and choose one for their prom – free of charge.

Last year Beauty Company partnered with the Princess Project and we were thrilled with the number of gowns we received! We hope to exceed that number this year with the help of our community. Please click here for donation requirements.

This is a GREAT time to clean your closets of prom dresses, formal gowns, bridesmaid dresses & more! Every dress you donate makes a huge difference to a high schooler in need. Each donation is deeply appreciated and tax-deductible.

Anyone who donates a dress the month of February will receive a raffle ticket. Great prizes including mani/pedis, airbrush tanning, product and more! Winners will be drawn at our Princess Project Party on Tuesday February 28th from 6-8pm.

At our event makeup artists will be on-hand demonstrating easy party looks you can recreate at home. A Bubbles Boutique will also be here presenting a rack of Spring 2012 fashions and fun new ways to incorporate them into your wardrobe. Moroccan Oil will be present doing live-sampling of their prodcuts.

To reserve a space with a makeup artist please visit our website www.beautycompanysf.com and click “make an appointment” in the right-hand corner. Choose “Event 2/28″ as your service. Click on the calendar and select which time slot best fits your schedule.

If you plan to attend but aren’t interested in booking a spot with a makeup artist, please RSVP to beautycompanysf@gmail.com to guarantee your gift bag. Those who book a space online will automatically receive a gift bag. All are welcome – this is open to the public, so bring your friends!

The fine print: These sessions are complimentary, so please only use your reserved spot (be respectful of the people behind you). If you reserve a spot and can’t make it, no problem – just give our front desk a call at 415-567-8740. Even if it’s day of the event we appreciate the head’s up. All attendees of the event receive 10% off any retail purchase, so feel free to shop. Ask the artists which colors they recommend for your skin tone and stock up with the discount! Space is limited; if you can’t reserve a spot please add yourself to our wait list. Beauty Company is thrilled to team with Princess Project for their 2011 Dress Drive!

Princess Project began in 2002 with one girl’s request for a prom dress. Within days women all over the Bay Area responded to her request with donations. Eleven years later, the Princess Project is stronger than ever thanks to “time, talent & taffeta” given by local women.

Starting in San Francisco, The Princess Project has expanded to Silicon Valley, the East Bay and in 2009 opened a San Jose location. Serving thousands of girls each year, Princess Project has truly made prom night a magical night for those who wouldn’t otherwise have such an opportunity.

Part of the success of The Princess Project lies in their values. Quoting their website:

We celebrate bodies of all sizes and avoid using body imagery in our marketing and outreach. Body-oriented graphics and artwork—like torso silhouettes, dress outlines or generic, stock prom photos—inadvertently convey an idealized body size, style and look. By instead using images of the girls we serve and royalty-related imagery like tiaras and crowns, we celebrate the beauty and diversity of girls everywhere, in every size

Please join us in our effort to gather a record number of prom dresses for Bay Area girls this year. Donate gently-used formal dresses & accessories (jewelry, handbags, clutches-no shoes please) to Beauty Company February 5th-21st and receive a raffle ticket. Join us February 17th for a final donation weekend kick-off party, where we will choose raffle winners. MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN! Over 20 gift baskets available, all containing fabulous prizes including Bumble & Bumble, Kerastase, Alterna & Redken products, plus mani/pedi gift certificates and much more!

Beauty Company is dedicated to helping local women succeed at every age. YOU can help local girls have an incredible prom night!
