OPI GelColor Makes Us Swoon

Dec 08, 2011

The new salon service OPI GelColor has been a perfect new addition at Beauty Company! Staff and clients alike have gone gaga for this revolutionary manicure. The high shine, chip-free color lasts for days on end (see photo below) but has a super easy removal process – it only takes about 10 minutes. Those who have tried Shellac, Axxium, etc. know the brutal removal process of these gel services. Look no further than OPI GelColor! A quick wrap of foil and solution around your finger will lift the GelColor in record time. Another advantage? This service cures under LED light (highly preferable to UV-rays!). Final perk? OPI has released the GelColor in their top 30 shades, meaning even there’s a shade for everyone. Meet you in the mani/pedi lounge….

15 days & no chips!

The long-awaited OPI GelColor has arrived! It’s entirely new gel technology is like nothing we’ve seen from gel-lacquer in the past. The quick-drying formula cures under LED lights (buh bye, UV-rays!) and has a very easy in-salon removal process. All top 30 OPI shades are featured, including: You Don’t Know Jacques!, Lincoln Park After Dark, I’m Not Really A Waitress, Black Onyx, Vodka & Caviar and all your other OPI classics.

Beauty Company has waited on bringing in a gel nail service until we were absolutely positive it was the best. We’re thrilled that iconic nail line OPI delivers with their new GelColor. We will be the first salon in San Francisco to provide this revolutionary service, and we want your feedback! Try it out and let us know what you think.

This service is best on natural nail clients looking for long-lasting color (it will NOT make your nails soft like other gel services). The result is chip-free, high-gloss finish for weeks on end. Bumble Cocktails

Sep 26, 2011

Bumble&Bumble Haircare is known for being an innovator in editorial hair. Their unique styling products create fabulously wild hair, from huge & tousled to sleek & shiny and everything in between. The inspiration for Bumble styling could be anything from a tangled, rolling tumbleweed in the Great Basin desert; an outrageous lion’s mane on the African savanna; or stark, choppy sticks of coral off the coast of Australia.  No matter what inspires the stylists, the final look is always one of true originality and craftsmanship.

The styling products from Bumble are different then any others you will find in the industry. Try matching Brilliantine (their very first product!) with any other product from a different line. It’s impossible! While every line has their standout, shining star products, Bumble delivers this with each styler they create. And as things become outdated or commonplace, they are removed (then typically replaced) with something even bigger and better.

A key element of Bumble’s products is their ability to be mixed together to create fabulous, unexpected, highly unusual results. These “cocktails” are generally mixtures we wouldn’t come up with on our own, but really work best when used together. See a list of our favorites below, then click here for a more complete list recommended by Bumble. Remember, these cocktails all came about through trial and error – so feel free to create you own! If you have a great success story please share with us – we’d love to hear it. Happy cocktailing!

Fine Hair: Thickening Spray + Surf Spray + Styling Cream
Apply Thickening Spray all over damp hair. Mix a slight bit of Surf Spray and Styling Cream and apply to crown only (where you want the lift). Blowdry with a round brush for big, voluminous hair

Curly Hair: Curl Conscious Defining Cream + Holding Foam + Styling Lotion
Apply Defining Cream to wet hair. Add slight Holding Foam to crown only (careful, it comes out fast!) Lightly layer Styling Lotion all over, flip head and diffuse.

Thick Hair: Leave-In (Rinse Out) Conditioner + Styling Lotion
Apply Leave-In to damp hair, layer Styling Lotion on top. Provides control from frizz and heat protection without adding too much texture. Blow dry straight for a polished, movable look.

Beachy Waves

Jul 08, 2011

Beachy waves are meant to look effortless, but if you’ve tried them before you know they can take a bit more “effort” than most realize! Beach sprays texturize and tousle your hair, providing a straight-off-the-coast messiness (and sexiness).  Messy hair is all trial and error; you can’t really “mess up” unless you over-use the product. Start with a little and build up gradually – you can always add more in!

Try adding a texturizing cream or gel on wet hair (or go au natural) and creating two thick braids. Diffuse braids to dry (or sleep with them wet and wake up with them dry) then shake out the braids and spritz with beach spray.

For a glamorous “mess is more” approach (think Jennifer Aniston on the Red Carpet) take dry hair that was washed the day before, amp up with a great dry shampoo (read this blog for our favorites) and loosely curl large sections around a 1 1/2 or larger barrel curling iron. Direct some curls forward and some back. Spray a beach spray lightly over curls and let it fall naturally (the beach spray will not provide as much hold as a hair spray).

Some our favorite beach sprays are listed below. Testers of each are available at Beauty Company, so come in and play with them today! We recommend:

Bumble & Bumble’s Surf Spray -our #1 best-seller!

Aquage Sea Salt Texturizing Spray -provides subtle lift and volume

Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Texturizing Sea Spray -brand new and rapidly becoming a fan favorite

Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Beach Spray -UV-protection and color-hold technology

Waxing Tips & Tricks

Jun 23, 2011

Whether it’s your first wax with us or your first wax ever, we know getting waxed can be a nerve-racking experience. At Beauty Company we take pride in providing a clean, comfortable and enjoyable environment for all our waxing clients. Please read below for insider tips on getting the best wax possible.

  • Before your wax:

Let your hair grow out at least 1/4 of an inch. If you normally shave, stop doing so about 3 weeks before your appointment.

Gently exfoliate your bikini line the night before; this can be done daily (gently!) to reduce ingrown hairs.

Shower before your appointment, and do not soak in a hot bat, work out or tan for the rest of the day following your wax. Raising your body temperature can irritate your freshly plucked hair follicles.

Some clients choose to take Advil or Ibuprofen shortly before their appointment to lessen pain and swelling.

  • During your wax:

Relax! Our technician is a trained professional; you are in the best hands. If you have any questions or concerns, voice them to her and she will explain the procedure.

Let your technician know if you have had issues with waxing in the past, or if you’re on any medication (including retinal, glyolic/salicylic/lactic acid, skin lighteners, etc.

  • After your wax:

We recommend TendSkin or PFB Vanish to lessen redness and reduce ingrown hairs.

Anticipate a bit of irritation and redness. It will dissipate shortly.

Come back in 4-6 weeks for maintenance. Remember it’s different for everyone; monitor the rate your hair grows back. Finally, thank you for choosing us for your waxing needs! We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Remember, waxing is superior to shaving since it removes hair from the root. When shaving, you create a blunt-cut hair that is prone to ingrowns and begins growing again within hours. If you have any additional questions please let one of our expert employees know, we’d be happy to answer them for you!

Ultimate Spray Tan Guide

May 27, 2011

We’ve all seen victims of a terrible spray tan (you may have been one yourself). Streaks, blotches, uneven patches – Fear Them No More!! Beauty Company is committed to each client receiving a perfect spray tan each and every time they visit our Bronze Alley. Our tried and true method keeps all of us looking perfectly golden every single session. Remember, our natural formula is derived of beet sugar and will never give you an orange hue. Follow our guide below for optimal spray tan results. All your friends will think you’ve been in Hawaii!

Spray Tan Guide to the Perfect Glow

Before spray tanning: shower, shave, exfoliate (come with clean, dry skin)

Remove any jewelry and makeup (with a wet wipe)

Apply Vaseline to your fingernail beds and toenail beds (around cuticle area)

Apply a small bit barrier cream (dispense on the wall) to your elbows, knees, all over the bottoms of your feet and feather along the sides and back of your feet. Leave remaining barrier cream on your palms

Place hair net over your head and make sure it’s all the way back to your hair line (so you don’t have a line on your forehead!)

Inside the booth: Stand close to the door for a more evenly distributed tan (not up against spraying vents)

Press the flashing green button to begin. Follow the poses. Turn palms away from spray during your session. Spray begins at bottom (near feet) and goes up your body. Each spray last about 5 seconds, then pauses for 5 seconds to allow you to switch to the next pose. The entire spray tan takes just a minute.

After exiting the booth: Take a wet wipe and remove Vaseline from cuticle beds. Wipe  entire bottoms of feet and along sides of each foot.

Use hand sanitizer thoroughly on palms of hands.

Wait a moment for spray tan to dry. You will feel dewy, but it will dissappate shortly. If you feel you have excess solution anywhere (unlikely), take a towel and gently wipe it clear.

After a few moments, take any lotion (we recommend Hempz, but any brand will do) and gently blend it into your skin. Blend away from your joints (elbows and knees) – for example, above your elbow blend up towards shoulder, below your elbow blend down towards wrist, etc. Blend well on the back of your arms and legs – common areas for streaks. NOTE: wash your hands or use sanitzer each time you blend!! Even though you don’t see it, the solution is developing and you do not want it on your palms.

Once you’re home, take a pumice stone (provide by Beauty Company) and scrub the bottoms and sides of your feet.

Keep an eye on your skin over the next few hours and blend as needed. The solution is clear and will develop over 6-8 hours (do not shower or sweat during this time). You can manipulate any streaks or splotches with blending, just remember to wash your hands!
