OPI GelColor Makes Us Swoon

Dec 08, 2011

The new salon service OPI GelColor has been a perfect new addition at Beauty Company! Staff and clients alike have gone gaga for this revolutionary manicure. The high shine, chip-free color lasts for days on end (see photo below) but has a super easy removal process – it only takes about 10 minutes. Those who have tried Shellac, Axxium, etc. know the brutal removal process of these gel services. Look no further than OPI GelColor! A quick wrap of foil and solution around your finger will lift the GelColor in record time. Another advantage? This service cures under LED light (highly preferable to UV-rays!). Final perk? OPI has released the GelColor in their top 30 shades, meaning even there’s a shade for everyone. Meet you in the mani/pedi lounge….

Foot Fungus Information

Apr 26, 2011

Now that the boots are coming off, nail salons everywhere are seeing foot fungus. To protect our clients in our mani/pedi lounge under NO circumstance will we use our polish  if there is an infected nail. We can perform the rest of the pedi (soak, polish removal, shaping, cuticles and massage) as our equipment is always thoroughly sterilized. However, we absolutely cannot use any base coats, top coats or polishes (aka-double dip!) for the safety of all clients. You are welcome to bring your own polish -of any brand- and we’re happy to polish your nails with that!

We will be unable to use our polish if you have any of the following:

*Nail fungus,  athlete’s foot, staph infections, blisters, open sores, any other type of foot infection

Foot fungus plagues far more people than anyone lets on.There are may causes (face it – we put our feet in some bacteria-ridden areas!). Don’t be embarrassed if you become infected Swimmers, runners, dancers, people who wear sneakers/slippers/etc without socks, boots with nylons are prime candidates.

Prevention is important. Follow these guidelines to lessen your chance of causing infection:

-Do NOT where nylons with boots. Wear clean, dry socks.

-Change your socks frequently (2-3 times a day) if you’re prone to sweating

-Never wear the same shoes to days in a row. Shoes take 24 hours to air out and should be completely dry every time you put them on.

-Always wear sandals in public showers and locker rooms

-Synthetic fiber flats are not a good idea if you are prone to sweat or odor

At home remedies are often effective. Try Fung-Off or Gehwol, both available at Beauty Company, to prevent and lessen fungus. Gehwol is a trusted German footcare line that began in 1868 and has a very popular deodorizing foot spray.

Bleach baths are often an effect, inexpensive and drug-free way to treat skin irritations – including fungus. As always, before undergoing any treatment or medical procedure we urge you to talk to your doctor. We recommend seeing a dermatologist to determine your exact condition.

A small amount of bleach (around 1/2 cup of bleach in a 40-gallon bathtub filled with warm water) in your baths once or twice a week can help relieve these uncomfortable conditions.

Additionally, patients have soaked their feet in vinegar (1 part vinegar, 2 parts warm water) for 15-20 minutes to alleviate infection.

Again, we do not recommend trying these at home remedies until you speak to your Physician!

Please view these links to Mayo Clinic and Web MD for their advice on using at home remedies.

Too Hot Pink To Hold ‘Em

Mar 09, 2011

The always innovative OPI has brought it back home with their latest launch, the Texas collection.

Each lacquer is a fabulous hue with an adorable name (both OPI standards) but there are some modern twists. Texas has a sorbet-finish, meaning it’s more translucent than most shades – though 3 coats will give you a more opaque, covered looked. Whether you do two or three coats, each of these polishes are super shiny, which is great.

Watch the video below for more information on OPI’s Texas Collection. All colors are available at Beauty Company now, so be sure to get a mani/pedi with one of these new shades -possibly “Ya’ll Come Back Soon!”

Everlasting Mani

Mar 03, 2011

All good things must come to an end, but your manicure doesn’t have to be one of them (at least not for 7 days).  Beauty Company has searched the globe in search of the Perfect, Everlasting Mani tools and we’ve concocted a dream team of products to keep your nails fabulously fresh for days on end.

Before beginning polish, we recommend Solar Oil’s cuticle treatment. We have a variety of files, buffs & polish removers (including A Beautiful Life’s non-toxic soy based remover) available.

After removing polish, clipping, buffing and shaping your nails, begin with OPI’s Chip Skip on your naked nail (before base coat). Apply only to the tips of your nails (where they chip first). This ultra-lightweight clear coat will dry instantaneously.

Use Creative Nail Design’s Stickey Base coat (2010 Allure Magazine’s “Best of Beauty” winner). This soft, sticky base coat anchors color to your nail. Hands -and fingers- down the very best base coat.

Follow with the polish of your choice. We recommend OPI, Essie & Butter London as our top picks. Remember some polishes respond best to three coats. Keep each coat very thin and even, and let them dry completely between applications. If your polish is too sheer after two coats (a common situation with Essie and OPI soft shades) don’t be afraid to add a third – many polishes are intended to be done with three coats (for example, OPI’s new Texas collection has a sorbet-like finish that looks best with 3 coats).

Follow your polish with CND’s Super Shiney Top Coat. This super hard, high gloss top coat will seal your color and hold it for days. Apply a thin layer of this top coat every other day to maintain a chip-free, shiny mani.

Once your mani is nearly dry (about 85% dry) apply a droplet of  OPI’s Drip Dry to each nail. This highly concentrated, oil-like substance will prevent any smudging of slightly-wet nails. If there is one miracle product for the Everlasting Mani, this is it. One drop goes a long way, and guarantees no last-minute mistakes. It also conditions the cuticles with jojoba.

Volia! The Everlasting Mani is yours!

All mentioned products are available for sale at Beauty Company.

Not a DIY type gal? Come to our mani/pedi lounge and receive a Everlasting Mani from one of our fabulous technicians.

…Because YOU deserve a mani that lasts for days on end!
