Sulfate-free shampoo
Jan 10, 2012
Sulfate-free shampoos are all the rage these days. So what’s the deal?
Sulfates are the cleansing agents found in many cleansing products – including shampoos. Sulfates work as a lathering agent, sudsing up your locks in the shower.
The cold hard facts: your hair does NOT need to lather in order to clean your hair. While using a low-lather or no-lather shampoo will feel different, use a regular amount of shampoo with each wash and your hair will end up just as clean.
Keep in mind, there are “good” sulfates as well – high quality sulfates are not stripping of hair color. Brands such as Bumble & Bumble stand behind their sulfates (though they recently came out with a sulfate-free shampoo as well). Read on for some of Beauty Company’s favorites.
Alterna Every shampoo they make is free of sulfates, sodium chloride, parabens, and a slew of other “not so great” ingredients. One of the truly eco-sustainable lines on the market.
BioMega All three shampoos (Volume, Moisture & Silk) that this line makes are free of harsh sulfates & sodium chloride, making them ideal for those with keratin straightening treatments
Terax This luxury Italian line produces five shampoos, all of which are sulfate free (and just one condition – Crema – that makes every hair type swoon!)
Pureology Pioneers of sulfate-free style with their “anti-fade” technology, Pureology shampoos have always been free of sulfates
DevaCurl Perfect for curly locks (which tend to be dry) this their low-lathering Low Poo and zero-lathering No Poo contain zip in terms of harsh cleansers.
Enjoy Formulated to be PH-balanced, Enjoy never uses sulfates in their shampoos
*All of the above mentioned lines never use sulfates. However, other brands are selectively getting on the bandwagon. Such as…
Paul Mitchell The new Awaphui line has straightening keratin (and smells deliciously like wild ginger)
Bumble & Bumble The new Straight shampoo (meant to correspond with their new Straight salon treatment) is free of sulfates (and makes your hair stick straight when used together!)
